Cummins genset maker powers ahead

Author : Date : 2013-6-14 9:47:54
Jakson Power Solutions is venturing into solar gensets, a territory where no established power player has gone before.
To be launched in the next few weeks, the 3-25 kilowatt solar gensets with a starting price of Rs 5 lakh mark yet another unconventional growth strategy for a company which was a conventional diesel generator manufacturer till 2009.
The power solutions provider has since seen some rapid diversifications into business verticals, clocking robust topline growth.
Solar gensets is another leap of faith for Jakson that has set for itself an ambitious target of `2,500 crore in revenues by March 2016, said its MD Sameer Gupta. Jakson  current revenues stand at Rs1,350 crore.
 believe the solar gensets market is very big and completely untapped, although the level of awareness is less, said Gupta during an interaction with media-people at Jakson  plant at Valsad in Gujarat.
He said the company  four decades of experience in making diesel gensets it enjoys a 20% market share and is increasing its capacity to 12,500 units by 2016 from the current 8,000 units can be leveraged to push the indigenously developed solar variants .
lthough a little expensive, we see there is a huge market for solar plug-and-play gensets in rural areas where the problem of power shortage will always be there, he said.
Diesel generators, he said, will remain Jakson  ore business e will continue to build and maintain our market share. It is the solar business which we see as the next major growth driver.
Jakson has been manufacturing acoustic enclosures and generators for Cummins in India for the last 25 years and also marketing them in neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh. Jakson is also in the process of setting up a solar power capacity of 100 mega watt (mw) out of which 20 mw has been commissioned in Rajasthan already.
It also manufactures solar inverter substations.
