Cummins Executive Announces Retirement

Author : Date : 2013-5-24 11:57:10
Columbus, Ind. -- Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) announced today that after forty years serving Cummins, Chief Manufacturing Officer, Jim Lyons, will retire from the Company, effective August 1, 2013.
"Cummins is a great place to work with terrific people at all levels," said Lyons. "I am fortunate to have worked for a company who is concerned for not only what they do, but also how they do it. Cummins core values will be with me forever."
"While we are excited for Jim and his personal decision to move on to the next phase of his life and embrace retirement, Cummins will miss his leadership," said Chairman and CEO Tom Linebarger. "Jim's 40 years with Cummins have spanned a number of organizations and roles and have touched hundreds of employees, customers and suppliers of Cummins. We are very grateful for his many contributions to Cummins success over his career."
Over the past 18 months, Lyons has served as Chief Manufacturing Officer. In this position, Lyons brought increased structure and focus to Manufacturing Functional Excellence, accelerated Cummins work in Health Safety and Environment, while also helping shape the supply chain organization and strategy.
Prior to his current position, Lyons was President, Cummins Turbo Technologies, where he was instrumental in leading a significant turnaround of the business. Under his leadership, the Turbo business improved profitability, increased sales, and strengthened the confidence of customers.
Lyons was first named an officer of the Company in 2000 when he began leading MidRange Manufacturing for Cummins. Later, Lyons responsibilities in this role grew to oversee all Heavy Duty manufacturing worldwide for the Company as well.
Other key roles Lyons held during his tenure at Cummins included general manager of the Consolidated Diesel Company (now known as the Rocky Mount Engine Plant), and leading the Fuel Systems Operations where he was successful in taking the Company抯 electronic fuel system product from start-up to a successful and mature business. His leadership helped to improve delivery, quality, and cost of the new fuel systems during some very difficult years for Cummins. In addition, Jim was part of the start-up team which re-opened the Cummins plant at Walesboro and created the Columbus MidRange Engine Plant where the Dodge Ram diesel is still produced today.
Lyons joined Cummins in 1973 as an Associate Manufacturing Engineer. His career took shape through experiences in a variety of areas including plant operations, materials, and product management.
"In addition to the business contributions Jim has made, Jim's impact on people has been an important part of his legacy, too." continued Linebarger. "Jim has spent a significant part of his career developing and mentoring others. He has touched many of Cummins manufacturing leaders and continues to invest in talented individuals in many parts of the Company."
